Bumdrak Trek is a route that every trekker will cherish. It is blessed by two of the most revered Buddhist Pilgrimage spot in Bhutan, Bumdra and Taktshang Monastery, besides the scenic beauty and Himalayan Mountains. Bumdra means ‘Rock of One Hundred Thousand Foot Prints’. The legend tells us that a hundred thousand Dakinis (angels) descended here and left their footprints on the rock 800 years ago. Bumdra is about 3800 m above sea level and the Taktsang Monastery is about 3100 m above sea level.
Day 01: Arrive Paro
Your exciting vacation in this land of happiness begins. After completing your immigration formalities, you will be received by our representative who will be your tour guide throughout your tour. On your first day, you will visit the National Museum of Bhutan at Paro. Thereafter, we will visit Paro dzong (fortress). In the evening you will have leisure time in the town. Overnight in Paro.
Day 02: Trek 7 km, 4 hours, 1000 m. (Trek Begins)
You will drive to Sang Choekor Buddhist College at an altitude of 2800 meters. Here we will load the luggage on our ponies and start the hike. The first 2 hours is quite a steep climb, later getting gentler with great view of mountain and Paro valley. Finally we will reach camp below the Bumdra monastery, which is dubbed as a Cave of Hundred thousand Dakinis, the Buddhist female angels, who allegedly built that. This 17th century monastery’s beauty is second to only Tiger’s Nest. If you still have energy (we assume you got it), you will continue to 4000 meters high peak for better panoramic views. Round trip takes about 2-3 hours. For the night, you will camp at about 3800 m above sea level.
Day 03: Trek 15 km, 6 hours, 100 m, 1200 m. (Trek ends )
Today we will start trekking back but soon we will take narrow side path to the forest. After some time we will reach Zangto Pelri lhakhang on the top of the cliff. From here you can see glimpse the roof of the Tiger’s Nest monastery to which we will soon start descending. You will visit this temple, which is most holy place in Bhutan. It was built in 8th century on the place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated. After the Takshang visit, you will descend to the parking. Before going back to hotel you will spend some time to visit and Kiychu lhakhang, one of two oldest temples in Bhutan. Overnight in Paro.
Day 04: Paro – Thimphu
Drive to Thimphu with stop at Tashog lhakhang to see the bridge reconstructed with old chains smoothed by ancient saint and bridge builder Thangton Gampo. Then, drive to gigantic statue of Buddha overlooking the valley and walk to viewpoint where we can view the entire Thimphu city. Afterwards, visit School of traditional arts, Takin zoo, Changankha lhakhang and Tashicho dzong (the castle). Overnight in Thimphu.
Day 05: Drive to Paro airport and depart.
